Accessories Magazine Item of the Day

Item of the Day
January 11, 2012  by Jeff Prine 1 Comment

Is it just us, or are you getting tired of all the mud slinging negative campaigning surrounding this year’s race for the Republican presidential nominee? It’s worse than an episode of “Real Housewives,” no?

Although the GOP has long picked the elephant as its mascot, we think this is one critter who appeals to everyone. Nonpartisan.

That’s why we love this depiction from Lagos’ new Rare Wonder collection, a new series of whimsical sterling silver animal charms that serve as talismans. The elephant—for those who may have forgotten—represents protection. (After all, as the largest land animals in the world, elephants have no natural enemies.)

Each one of Lagos’ Rare Wonders, which include a butterfly, sea horse, sea turtle and gecko, come with their own special properties as well as Lagos’ signature caviar bead details.

In the case of this precious pachyderm, it represents message suitable to live by in 2012:

“When elephants set their minds to something, they don’t waver in their commitment. Their intelligence gives them a terrific advantage to make the best of every situation. The symbolic message of the elephant is honesty and trust; they always let others know where they stand with regard to their feelings.”

Tony Bowls Tuxedos launch in February

Tony Bowls Tuxedos launch in February

Dec 17, 2011 by

It’s official… Tony Bowls Tuxedos will be a reality by February next year, as Mon Cheri announces near finalization of an exclusive licensing agreement with Jim’s Formal Wear, in which tuxedos designed by  popular Prom designer Tony Bowls will be distributed nationally by Jim’s Formal Wear.

The first in the line of the Tony Bowls Tuxedos will be manufactured by Flow Formalwear.  Jim’s Formal Wear is the nation’s largest wholesaler of men’s formalwear, servicing nearly 6000 retailers.

The initial offering will be distributed through tuxedo rental specialists, bridal stores, and  men’s retail stores by mid-March for Prom 2012, and will be launched to the Prom consumer with advertising and editorial exposure in Teen Prom and Seventeen magazines.

Steve Lang, CEO of Mon Cheri, is enthusiastic about this development as the popularity of Tony Bowls can help rejuvenate the men’s formal wear market in the minds of Prom boys, especially as the special slim fit design of a Tony Bowls tuxedo will appeal to a younger audience.

“With the popularity of Tony Bowls, Prom boys will  become more familiar with men’s formal wear, and consequently more comfortable with formal dressing as grooms,” added Lang.

According to Chuck Brueggemann, senior vice president of business development for Jim’s, this is the first time in Jim’s 47 year history that the company has entered into a licensing agreement directly with a designer.

“Tony Bowls brings an updated fashion forward look to tuxedos, and frankly we are very excited about where his designs will take Jim’s Formal Wear and the entire industry,” he said.

The addition of tuxedos to Tony Bowls collections emphasizes Mon Cheri’s dedication to the overall special occasion category of Prom, bridal and weddings, and comes on the heels of a successful launch of Tony Bowls Bridal.

Mon Cheri and Jim’s Formal Wear will be undertaking a coordinated marketing campaign for the Tony Bowls tuxedo, including presentations within the Mon Cheri showrooms at Prom and Bridal Markets.

National Bridal Service Tips for Dress Details

• There is a gown style for every figure type. Define your figure and look for the most flattering style for you.
• Always try on your headpiece with your gown to be certain they complement each other in style and in color.
• Do you know what type slip you should wear with your gown? A petticoat made of a firm fabric adds structure to a full skirt, whereas the soft body-shaping lingerie smooths the lines of a sheath. A sheer bodice calls for a lacy camisole. You’ll also need the right style bra , be it strapless or a push-up.
• Match the color of your shoes to the color of your gown. There are many shades of white and ivory. Choose shoes that are comfortable as you’ll be standing/dancing for hours.
• Gloves should match the formality of your wedding, the season and the style of your gown. Remember, accessories are the perfect finishing touches.
• A good guideline for the bride’s jewelry is the heavier the embellishments on the gown, the simpler the jewelry.
• Scuff the sole of your shoes before your wedding day.
• Blushers and long veils are still reserved for a first-time bride.
• Shop with a local bridal shop that has a good reputation.
• Be prepared to make a 50 percent deposit when you purchase the gown.

Big Buddha’s new Buddha Boutique line

Long Island City, NY–Big Buddha is making sure its specialty store buyers stay special.

What started as a boutique handbag line and has since been bought by Steve Madden LLC and expanded to include other accessories, Big Buddha has since significantly grown its department store distribution and presence.

To make sure its original specialty store customers stay special, Big Buddha has launched the specialty line Buddha Boutique.

“The Buddha Boutique bags will all retail under $100, and will be all about fun fashion and trends,” says president Jeremy Bassan, who points out neon parachute quilted bags, trendy minaudieres, Aztec prints and more.

“We want to make sure our specialty stores can show something different than what’s in the department stores under the Big Buddha name,” says Bassan. “But it still has the same Big Buddha sensibility.”
